A plural noun is any noun that shows more than one person, place, thing, idea, etc.

Types of Plural Noun

Based on how they are formed or converted from singular into plural, plural nouns are categorized into two kinds. They're given as under:

Regular plural nouns are the nouns that are pluralized (made plural) using a certain pattern. That is, regular plural nouns follow some standard general rule when being changed into plural. Some nouns are made plural adding an -s as in the below-given examples:

Examples of Regular Plural Nouns

b. girl becomes girls.

c. friend becomes friends. 

While some other nouns are changed from singular to plural adding an -es at the end. They are given as follows:

b. potato becomes potatoes. 

c. botch becomes botches. 


Irregular plural nouns, on the other hand, do not follow a certain rule or pattern in the process of pluralization (when making plural). Irregular plural nouns do not follow a standard general rule.
